Happy Father's Day Dad! Every time I sit down to write to you so many memories come to mind that I end up stopping because I don't know where to start. Today is my first Father's day without you here to hear me tell you I love you and to thank you for a lifetime of memories. I remember how as a little girl, I would never leave your side once you got home from work. I'd wait, watching the clock until you got home and jump into your arms as soon as you got in the door. You'd lift me into your arms and flip me around (sorry for all the times you got kicked). On weekends you'd take me shopping with you, and to the firehouse and everywhere else you went. I remember how proud I was of you, although not physically a large man, you where such a 'big' presence. The room would light up when you walked in. I remember one of your nicknames...Top Cat (the leader of the pack). You taught me about service to others by all the volunteer work you did, being a fireman, involved in local politics, running recreation programs for the kids in the community, sports, block parties, dances. I remember when the fire alarm would sound in the middle of the night, I never could understand how you could wake up, put on your pants as you ran out the door, hop the fence & get into the firehouse before the first siren was through. As I think about it now, you were quite a sight!
Rather than try to capture all my thoughts here today, I just want to tell you how much I appreciate you & how proud of you I still am. While you've always been my hero, through the 53 years I've known you, I'm proud of the way you've grown. In the wake of disappointments, of illness & death you stayed strong. Even when your physical strength was challenged, your spiritual strength grew even stronger. As you aged, you demonstrated even more Grace than I can ever remember seeing. You are an example of how I hope to live my life & you set the bar high. Please continue to watch over me and to help me live in a way that will make you & God proud.
Happy Father's Day Dad, I love you more than words can ever capture. And, thank you for all you've done for me...I am truly humbled by the gift of your love. Although I miss having you here, I'm happy that Patrick gets to spend today with you...& your Dad too. Enjoy your day! I Love You! ~♥~
